Shades For Ste
Shades4Ste Charity World Cup Football Match was held on Sunday 26th September 2010 at Our Lady's School in Aspull to raise funds for Sun Sail Shades in Schools around the Borough. After a marathon playing session from 11am the eventual winners from 16 teams were The Meerkats who carried the cup home in victory. On hand to support the event were cllrs chris ready and ron conway who are pictured with the teams
The teams were made up of volunteers of all abilities who donated by entering the event as a team. It was a very special day bringing together everyone who loved Steven and for a great cause.
Steven was just 27 when he lost his battle to skin cancer on 14th May 2009. He was diagnosed with malignant melanoma only a year earlier which was already at stage 3. His chance of survival (more than 5 years) at this stage was 30 to 50%. Treatment commenced and for a few months he was well. Sadly, this didn't last and the cancer spread to most major organs in his body. In January 2010 he was given just 3 months to live. His chance of survival was now just 10%. Melanoma is very aggressive and difficult to treat. Steven deteriorated quickly and passed away at 2am on 14th May 2009.
He was an amazing person, loved by everyone who knew him. He went to the local Primary School, Our Lady's in Aspull where the event took place, and many of his friend’s and family's children will also attend this school. By raising the money to put a sun shade up in the playground, Steven will help to keep our children safe. Our aim to provide sun shades for as many schools as we can, this is a long term commitment. If any schools in the area are interested in running an event to raise cash for their own shade in school please contact Stacy or Tina below or visit our website wwww.shades4ste.com to download an event pack.
