Sports fans in Wigan are being offered the chance to finally settle the age-old argument.
It's the town's ultimate question - are we mad about rugby league or are we football crazy?
And two charities are set to benefit as fans decide which is the town's most popular sport.
Followers of both sports can bid for balls signed by the Warriors and Latics squads.
The proceeds will go towards a lifesaving "rapid response" car for the town's ambulance service and rugby league legend Billy Boston's jubilee testimonial fund.
The former is the cause chosen by the new Mayor of Wigan, Coun Wilf Brogan, for his term of office. The vehicle will help paramedics negotiate rush hour traffic to reach congested areas faster than conventional ambulances.
The organiser, Aspull councillor Chris Ready and Worsley Mesnes representative Brian Baldwin believe the auction will show if we are football crazy or mad about rugby.
Coun Ready said: "First division football is coming to the JJB next season and, because of the game's growing popularity in the town, the most bids will definitely come from football fans."
Warriors diehard Coun Baldwin disagrees. He said: "League can't lose! The rugby ball features household names and stars of the future and who wouldn't want to win that? If the rugby fans are outbid, it will just prove my point that soccer fans have more money than sense."
Meanwhile, Coun Brogan is carefully playing it straight down the middle.
he said: "Chris and Brian are just having a bit of fun - the real winner will be the Greater Manchester Ambulance Service and the Wigan public when thislife-saving car goes into action."
